  • Bishton Hall Bellamour Lane Stafford, England, ST17 0XN United Kingdom (map)

We are pleased to announce that our new horsebox Wine Bar will be at the 3rd annual Battle of Mercia Viking Event at Bishton Hall, which will be held this year on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th August 2024. With over 2,500 people attending this event is proven to be successful every year with interest growing. There will be many crafters again demonstrating many of our traditions dating back along with Viking re-enactments, Strongman competitions, Archery, Axe throwing, deliciously tasty food and activities for the children during the two days.

  • When: Saturday 10th August & Sunday 11 August | 10-6pm

  • Where: Bishton Hall, Bellamour Lane, Stafford, ST17 0XN

The grounds of the Georgian Mansion will once more be transformed back to the times of Mercia’s past as we go back to the Dark Ages. The Vikings have turned up again and set up camp. Come and see how they lived with a working viking village. Come and see how they fight in the arena with live battles, shield wall versus shield wall. Individual battles may erupt in the heat of the moment so stand back and cheer on your favourite. In the arena we have modern day warriors too. Strong men and strong women battle it out with fantastic feats of bravery and endurance. Who will win the Battle of the Stones 2024?

As well as the vikings and strong men and women competitions we have a trader village with crafts people tending their wares. The Mercia Spirits Bar will have delicious libations and the sparkling mead on draft that everyone loved so much last year so you can drink like a Mercian of old. To feed your lust for battle we have delicious artisan food stalls with every taste catered for. Axe throwing and archery will allow you to test your own skill as well as longbow demonstrations. There will be other games and activities for smaller ones that we will be providing free under parental supervision. No sharp objects involved in these.

Our roving bard and performers will help everyone get in the spirit, and that bard of ours insisted that he sings on a stage, so there will be live music over towards the Mercia Spirit Lab. Face painting for the young and young at heart will help you get involved and there will be prizes for the best kids costumes too. Will you side with the vikings or fight for Mercia? You decide. Towards the end of both days we will raise a mini Mercian army to beat those vikings back. The kids battered the vikings last year but they have been training all year. So kids, we need your help to send them packing once more. For Mercia!
